Group Rhoda - Wilderless

Group Rhoda is the solo electronic music project of Mara Barenbaum, based out of Oakland, California. The project started around 2009 with a debut album ‘Out of Time, Out of Touch’ in 2012 on Night School Records and ‘12th House’ in 2013 on Not Not Fun. She is also one half of Max and Mara who released the album ‘Less Ness’ in 2013 on Dark Entries Records. She is committed to live performance, situated within the analog synthesizer and drum machine medium.

‘Wilderless’ is Group Rhoda’s third full length and first for Dark Entries Records. Each of the these 7 songs draw forth tones of tropical darkwave and soft industrial; while negating the sound of conformity and control. The album explore themes of societal and spiritual displacement, contemporary serfdom, the depths of empathy, regeneration through destruction, and the tyranny of claiming recognition and power. Lyrics are poetically expressed through allegory and explore archetypes rooted more in abstract observation rather than hard line experience. Through transgression and imagination, Group Rhoda explores the arc of songwriting interwoven into stark electronic environments; and creates a bridge between the corporeal and the dream worlds.

Velvet Kills - Mischievous Urges

Velvet Kills is a thoroughly modern and urban endeavour, speaking directly to today’s society – with all its anxieties, addictions, destructiveness as well as exhilaration. You’ll find in their driving beats raw emotion, and a terrific darkness. The sound is complex, almost abstract – a combination of cinematic textures, gritty guitars, and potent vocals.

The group’s music and attitude, both have been shaped by the influences of bands and artists like Alan Vega, Malaria!, Kas Product, Iggy Pop, The Clash, and Lou Reed.

Velvet Coat - Niemand

Like a rainy, gray autumn day, Velvet Coat brings a melancholic and gloomy mood. With accentuated drums and rough guitar sounds, the trio still provides enough scope for movement. Distorted sounds with a decent dose of delay complete the sound of Velvet Coat.

LCN - Autonomie

LCN was present on the “Noblesse Oblige” compilation (Gooiland 23) with a sweaty EBM influenced track… on this 4 track EP you can expect dark and cold elektro sounds… it is reminiscent of Invasion Planete and Kommando 6 output but with a cleaner and more modern sound… still if you like(d) these early 2000’s elektro sounds you will love this too… this EP follows up on the steady stream of releases LCN has been putting out lately… among them on labels as Frigio Records and Return To Disorder… but this is probably his most dark and freaked out release up till now…

Staatseinde - Neue Zyklus

Dutch synth duo Staatseinde finally releases their debut EP on vinyl… after two 7”s on Enfant Terrible they present this 6 track EP… stripped down through the years from a band to a duo the sound also changed… the songs on this EP are more up-tempo, louder, more beat orientated… and also darker as before mostly… and… for sure more dance floor minded… expect some classic minimal synth tunes in line with El Aviador Dro and Welle: Erdball for example but also more punchy tracks with EBM influences… Staatseinde 2.0 has arrived!
