IXVLF is back at it again following the Language Of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. Pushing it further from where we last left off, Connor Clasen’s vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. While cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, Involuntary Movement shows a sense of the American-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial — matching the visual interpretation of Ailsa Ogden undertaking the artwork by way of a new collaboration — where unpolished synthesizers and rhythm machines collide and bawl in a controlled crash. It is an exercise of existing in various states of detachment; a fixation on mechanical repetition and unpredictable behaviors through the haze of helium laughter. Definitely one for the animals.

Cititrax is thrilled to present a full length LP entitled Adieux Au Dancefloor by Montreal based recording artist, Marie Davidson. Marie Davidson has emerged as one of the foremost electronic artists working in contemporary pop today. As a long-time member of Essaie Pas (DFA Records), Davidson has had the opportunity to hone her many talents. She has been participating in the city’s vibrant experimental community for much of her adult life. However, in 2012 she began to unveil compositions under her own name, revealing a solo artist who possessed the combined confidence and vulnerability required to write, produce and perform unaccompanied. Davidson’s intimate solo work is embodied through a host of synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines which coalesce in synchronized harmony, punctuated by vocals, half sung, half spoken in both French and English. She masterfully shapes the overall mood, themes, emotion, expression and intensity of her work, which gives the final result a distinctive, cinematic quality. With Adieux Au Dancefloor, Marie makes a slight departure from her last two releases, via Holodeck (2015) and Weyrd Son (2014), by creating her first fully dancefloor oriented piece of work. Through the 45 minutes of music that comprises the album, she experiments with pop structures, defines her voice, and layers rhythms to make complex and beautiful techno tracks. She closes the album with the title track in classic Chanson style. GRAND((Ø))SIGNAL is the new collaboration between Jacky Meurisse & Tcheleskov Ivanovitch. The name of the project was derived from their respective projects Signal Aout 42 and Grandchaos. Both artists started composing music in the early 1980s when Belgium burst onto the scene and made waves with its signature drum machine and synth-driven music. Jacky Meurisse has been a prolific artist and music producer throughout the eighties with his projects Le Park, Amnesia and Pleasure Game. Hits such as “Le Dormeur” and “Litchies” climbed English and French charts and remain popular club songs to this day. Tcheleskov Ivanovitch, for his part, was a founding member of the cult Belgian indie act Ivanovitch DLO. In his solo projects, Tcheleskov has always displayed mightily muscled electronic music forefronted by powerful imagery. The duo delivers his first release, Aktivation with a sound heavily influenced by their solo projects as well as current music styles. GRAND((Ø))SIGNAL is therefore tailor-made for dancefloors. It is destined to be appreciated by nightclubbers across the globe. The duo has already envisaged captivating live sets showcasing their performance talent and using a perfect blend of sound and imagery. Dear Deer is a band formed in 2015, consisting of Federico Iovino (Popoi Sdioh) and Sabatel (Cheshire Cat). This duo mixing post-punk, industrial and nowave appears live for the first time in Lille at “Des Jeunes Gens Mödernes II” event in April 2015. After the release of a few demo tracks recorded in 2015, the band performed live in France, Belgium and Poland with such bands as The Kvb, Savage Republic or Guerre Froide. Producer, composer, songwriter, Montreal’s Xarah Dion works on the verge of minimal wave. Dion’s well-received first LP Le Mal Nécessaire (2014) brought her to widely tour Europe. The new LP FUGITIVE (out on 30/09/16 via Visage Musique) expands Dion’s rich analog sound. With skillfull arrangements, signature melodies, odd rythms and personal tone, FUGITIVE ushers in a vangard yet classic sound. |
