The Ancestry is the new 4-track EP by Jemek Jemowit and a direct continuation of his video work The Poles of Berlin (31.05.2024–26.01.2026, BERLIN GLOBAL, Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin). While the video features interviews with Berliners of Polish descent about their experiences with racism, Jemowit’s latest release tackles European racism more broadly and examines racist patterns in supposedly left-wing circles, such as the “White Savior Syndrome.” He also addresses the term “race,” which is enshrined in Germany’s Basic Law to protect people of different “races” but remains a taboo when used to describe individuals. This contradiction, coupled with his own experiences with active and passive racism and the growing shift to the political right in Germany, motivated Jemowit to create this project.
Founded in 2016 by Mathis Kolkoz, the project from Toulouse (France) presents today its fourth studio album BLAST, a sonic explosion that vigorously fuses New Wave and Post-Rock. Without gear of imperfection, aggressive basslines and chorused Cure-ish walls of guitars blend to create a unique soundscape, true to the band’s post-wave DNA. |
