Mannequin Records is delighted to present the fourth full length of Polices des moeurs, the Canadian minimal synth duo formed by Francis Dugas and Manuelle Gauthier. With PÉRIL, Police des moeurs expands its sound and ventures into mysterious, bewitchingand enigmatic landscapes. The foundation is still synthetic, minimal and punchy, relying on mechanical rhythm, powerful bass and catchy melodies, but it’s now combined with more elaborate arrangements, punctuated by delicate textures and depthful laments with uncertain but sincere meanings. Formed in 2010 in Montreal, Police des moeurs got noticed right from the start with its infectious and direct synth pop. The band has released several recordings, including Péril, their fourth full lenght album on Berlin’s Mannequin Records. The Canadian group has performed in Mexico, the United States, as well as in ten European countries, and has share the stage with The Damned, ADULT., TR / ST, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, Essaie Pas, Xarah Dion, Duchess Says, to name a few. Atlanta underground producer MPKJR’s CRT, CopyrightRegisteredTrademark, returns to DKA with 6 new tracks of torn speaker, 88’ Accord tape deck, body jack 2 step, metallic dance smash funk in the form of State X-ray. Dead pan hooks peek through the blown-out bass as haunted leads melt their way through the rhythms pressing for a surrender to form. The record vibes like the kids from the “Over the Shoulder” (Ministry) video growing up together and starting a band. The angular tones of the tracks drawing from nostalgic projects like Nervous Gender, Factrix and Severed Heads to the more recent sounds of Boris Barksdale, Volition Immanent and Maenad Veyl. Various field recordings, VHS compressed audio, modular synths and hardware sequencers create this release’s palette. Embrace the new dance sound from the sweat soaked floors of Atlanta. Feel the smash and lose yourself in the fog while CRT guides you on a tour of Atlanta’s underground past and present. Construction through accident. Heat by motion. Awareness through empathy. Life by wire. A 6 songs, 1 track tribute to Lana Tisdel. An imagining of a forlorn and angry karaoke set. Blown out and lonely. Distorted synthesizers and drum machines wail away. The scene is a karaoke bar where Brandon Teena’s lost love sings to her former lover hoping she can mean what she sings enough that Brandon will hear it. The room is smoky and everyone is a little drunk, but everyone sits rapt as Lana spills out her heart through a set of old favorites. |
