Claus Fovea - Open Eyes Shut

In 2012 Claus Fovea self released a cassette containing 10 tracks, he was at his Swedish beginnings. 9 years later we re-discovered his tape, thanks to Sam. It still sounded so true and relevant to us that we decided to release it on vinyl. Claus then reworked some tracks, scrap some, and made few new. Florin Büchel mixed them down and Andrea Merlini mastered them. The result is a picture frozen in time, in between now and then, the struggle, and sadness, that fragile construction of hope shattered as time goes by, like nothing ever change. It is indeed, as he sings, just the same song playing all the time. Over and over.

Martial Canterel - Places We Think We Know

‘Places We Think We Know’ is a limited edition vinyl LP produced as part of Irish artist Mary McIntyre’s eponymously titled exhibition at Dundee Contemporary Arts, 2021. The compositions in this album have been produced by Martial Canterel in response to Mary McIntyre’s photographs and function as the audio component in McIntyre’s exhibition.

For the exhibition, ‘Places We Think We Know’, DCA commissioned a body of photographic work, which sees McIntyre explore ideas of interior space, both physical and psychological. Accompanying these photographic works, McIntyre constructed a series of installations that intersect the gallery space in different ways to create bespoke environments from which to consider each image.

The exhibition at DCA debuted a new suite of modular synth compositions by Sean McBride of Martial Canterel, made in response to McIntyre’s photographs. Within these new electronic compositions, unfolding connections between French Impressionism and cold analogue electronics are embedded with the augmented chords and harmonic structures of Ravel and Debussy.

As part of McIntyre’s installations, Martial Canterel’s music is audible in the gallery at different times of the day, further enriching the experience of moving through the exhibition and engaging with McIntyre’s work.

Aska - Út Við Sundin Grá

The second album from Aska is the first on Galakthorrö. Aska’s initial Synth-Wave underwent a metamorphosis into darkest Angst Pop. Disturbing frequencies are now part of Aska’s sound spectrum and merge with deeply sad melodies and skeletal rhythms. No shallow Wave, no dull Noise, but a fruitful symbiosis that is absolutely unique in this form. Aska remains accessible, at the same time creating a dense, apocalyptic atmosphere. This is decisively shaped by depressive and ghostly sounding vocals exclusively in Icelandic. On Út Við Sundin Grá Aska has perfected his technique: the words fall effectively phrased, and in an emotionally moving, magical fashion, into the complex arrangement formed by the raw sounds of analogue synths. The drum machine starts up for the ghost dance. Distant. Empty of human life. Darkness is more than the absence of light.
