Veil of Light - Talisman

Created by M as a side-project and one-man-band, Zurich (Switzerland) based Cold Wave/Post-Punk outfit Veil Of Light emerged in late 2012. With Veil Of Light, floating layers of synth, reverb drenched guitars, shattering rhythms and gloomy vocals come together to create haunting songs of light in darkness.

Written, performed and recorded all alone in a bunker at the border of Zurich, the debut EP »Veil Of Light« was released by Swedish industrial wave label BELÄTEN in May 2013.The tape was characterized as »six songs of ice cold gothgaze splendor« and it sold out in less than two months. The follow-up »Cold Skin« was released in late November by Swiss label EDITION GRIS in form of a 7″ single containing two songs, combined with two digital bonus tracks. With »Cold Skin«, M delves more and more into the abysses of melancholia.

In November 2014 Veil Of Lights full length debut LP Ξ was released by BELÄTEN. Due to overwhelming critics and after different gig offers, the one-man-band evolved into a two-piece outfit in order to play live. Veil Of Light has played headlining tours in Italy in 2014 and Skandinavia in 2015 as well as many Club shows in Switzerland, Germany, Holland etc. and Festivals like Wave Gotik Treffen Leipzig (WGT), Incubate Festival Tilburg etc., sharing the stage with bands like The Soft Moon, Zola Jesus, Christian Death, Lebanon Hanover, Dark Horses,Trepaneringsritualen, King Dude…

Veil of Light - Head-Blood-Chest

Veil of Light is back with his first release since the majestically morose Ξ album of last year (now sold out). The new 12″ EP contains a quartet of songs that capture the artist’s signature air of serene and complex industrial melancholy, yet widens the spectrum to include glimpses of, dare I say, joy and hope. All the more powerful, then, the main theme of dead serious exploration of the emotional torso, its appendages and circulatory system. The title, Head/Blood/Chest, inevitably brings to mind the seminal Throbbing Gristle album Journey Through a Body. But the kinship ends there. This is no experimental 1/2-inch tape cacophony. This is beautiful and evocative music, redolent with wonder. The bleak, yet confident, tone echoes like the early literary works of James Graham Ballard, particularly The Drowned World (1963). The ever-heating climate is going to sizzle the poles and submerge all major cities on Earth. We will return to the humid, reptilian lagoon from out of which we once evolved. As with Ballard, the lasting impression from Head/Blood/Chest is that, contrary to conventional wisdom, this is a good thing. A long overdue return to our archaeopsychic past.

Head/Blood/Chest is a journey through an emotional as well as visceral landscape, that arrives at the conclusion that the two seemingly dualistic properties are, perhaps, made of the same basic stuff. A hauntingly atmospheric and heart-swelling dreamscape, magnetically etched into twelve inches of black vinyl.

Veil Of Light - Ξ

At first Veil of Light might come across as cold. It’s an easy mistake to make, their grand gothgaze is certainly steeped in melancholy and desolation. But as you become enveloped in the crystalline synth swaths, the mechanical rhythms, and the screeching guitar feedback, you feel a oddly at ease. Comforted. Like pulling your coat tighter as you walk down a empty, rain-wet autumn street.

Beläten is honored to welcome Veil of Light back into the fold, and to present our first vinyl release. Ξ is pressed on heavy, white vinyl, housed in a sturdy cardboard outer sleeve and a printed inner sleeve, and limited to 350 copies.
