After their critically acclaimed first LP “Endless Party” released on Wool-E-Tapes (cassette) and Minimal Maximal (vinyl), Whispering Sons is returning with a two-track EP that sees the quintet keeping digging in an already very distinctive sound and vibe of their own that make them so recognizable and exclusive. Fenne Kuppens stark and warm vocals and lyrics are giving the finest polish to the bands’ cold sonic darkness. The two songs are giving a very strong idea of what the quintet is the best at, taking us into a wide range of emotions that won’t leave us heartless. While “Performance” has this quite lyrical and impetuous swirl, “Strange Identities” sounds and evolves in a more obscure and modest place.
Here’s the seconds release from Charnier, a post-punk band from Brussels, Belgium. Limited edition of 300 clear blue vinyl with black smoke. Here’s the latest album from Drab Majesty, a Tragic Wave / Goth / Death Pop project from Los Angeles, CA. WHITE HORSE is the somber vision of musician Ben Chisholm, who is also a full time member of Chelsea Wolfe. Recording under the name “White Horse” since 2010, he has released a number of highly praised experimental solo recordings including “Final Coordinates” and “The Revenant Gospels I, II, and III”. Sighting other artists working under the moniker, White Horse, the name was put out to pasture in 2012 and turned into REVELATOR. With this fresh start, Revelator has recently released a split 7″ with Jacob Bannon’s latest project, Wear Your Wounds, and is currently recording new material for the near future. ‘All vocals performed by those whom are no longer with us.’ Somewhere between life and death, in an in-between might be poetically described as David Lynch – simulating a human face surreal awakening to that, his eyes still misty and feet walking on ground that it still does not recognize as completely his own, do not really know where he is – the music of Angelinos is a mix between a brutal reality, prosaically lo-fi and moods esoteric-hypnotics fascinating. Haunted by a vote of songs from old dusty records of the early last century and we believe directly unloaded from the abyss of oblivion, here accompanied by a piano from beyond the grave, then by the strings straight out of horror films, the 14 stocks that make up the two first volumes could also be well suited to atmosphere as a wake Mormon accompany a ghostly choir singing under the rubble of his Baptist church once burned by the KKK. Volume III takes us on a journey through other generations and points on the map. The concept of using field recordings has here been pushed away for the use of more contemporary voices. The overall concept and style is the same though, as if these other people from the past learned what could be achieved through the pioneers on volume I and II. Suffocating and mysterious, the music of White Horse still manages to remain melodic and pure, thus magnifying the wonderfully chaotic and sublimating his excessive taste for heavy atmospheres and tormented by a thin but continuous strand of seraphic light. Everyone being a early 80′s dark/cold minimal synth enthusiast have encountered those two classic songs composed by Carol and Snowy Red’s frontman Micky Mike. Originally released in 1982, “Breakdown” and side B’s “So Low” have both achieved the status of myth and are considered as anthems by a large audience. Almost 35 years later we’re honoured to annouce that both tracks will finally be reissued as a lovely 7″, housed in a pretty classy packaging, perfect for another 35 years journey… |
