Pure Ground is a minimal industrial/wave duo formed in Los Angeles in the Spring of 2012. Making use of a great assortment of analog and digital hardware, Pure Ground creates hard electronics teaming with rhythmic white noise and unsettling melody as the backdrop over which the group explores lyrical themes of present-day dystopian realities, sleeplessness and the supernatural, and the eventual triumph of the natural world over a human civilization in rapid decline. Not limited to music composition, the band also makes forays into analog video work, much of which can be seen projected onto them during live performances and in album art.

Born out of befriending Krisztian Puskar on a trip to Budapest last year and learning that he had been curating this compilation, which fell apart on the label end before all tracks had been received. I offered to step in and release it, making this a rare release in label’s discography to be curated by someone else. Perhaps an unsual selection for Chondritic, but fits right in with some familiar artists.

Oil Thief is anti-stasis ambient industrial built for the tropics, climes both inner and outer, relative to local humidity. Oil Thief mingles with change, colonization, union, dis-union and abstract formulae through analogue and digital synthesis in an attempt to arrange formal relations between the political, cosmic and personal. Oil Thief is Los Angeles-based, from Centennial Apt., by the palms on the hill. Kind of near Chinatown. Oil Thief is Lee Landey.
