DYSKINESIA is an italian band focused on music experimentation. Since the beginning (late 2006) the band (2 guitars, drums) began to perform with a simple approach, focusing on sound and improvisation. The musical outcome was a very raw mixture of stoner/psychedelic genres (see “Live in Pripyat” – Varjot Prod. – 2007). In early 2008 the band grows (5 people), taking a more stretched out approach, exploiting the presence of vocals (very weird vocals made with delay and other machines) and bass guitar (also a very deep noise monster). Through the years, the band style embraced anoise/drone approach, with neverending repetitions and oppressive atmosphere. The first full lenght (self titled “Dyskinesia” – Frohike – Creative Field Rec. – Cold Current Prod. – 2008) is a proof of this shifting. 2010 has benn a very prolific period. The guys recorded a couple of split albums, with other great italian drone/ambient projects like “Corpoparassita” and “Gioventù Suicida Studentesca”, and prepared their second full lenght “Dalla Nascita”. These last three recordings, have been made with the collaboration of the sound master Camelio Cripta.
There is minimal synth and then there is Iv/An. In a class all of his own, with a voice like no other, full of depth and clarity of tone, Iv/An’s releases on TONN Recordings have brought us synth that is executed with exacting precision. Skilfully pared back to expose their inventiveness, each track is interwoven with thought provoking narratives that speak to us of the human condition.
The playful confidence that exudes Finlay Shakespeare’s practice is flagarenty laid out on Domestic Economy, his extraordinary debut full length. Domestic Economy displays two eventful sides evidencing the unique musical approach Shakespeare has developed in such a short period of time. Let’s get some facts straight, Finlay is young. And talented. His programming skills belie his years and one can detect a sharp appreciation of historical electronic pop whilst simultaneously developing a canny understanding as to where such a form exists in the current age. Shakespeare’s brazen lyrical content and significant melodic prowess highlight a brave new voice in what can often be an sterile aesthetic environment. Domestic Economy bursts with edgy ecstatic electronic pop. A form not only unusual for Editions Mego (actually known for idolising such forms) but somewhat of a scarcity amongst the modern electronic landscape. Beling age, form and movement Domestic Economy is a damn near perfect amalgamation of historical respect and contemporary anxiety wrapped in an exquisite song-form package. Made in Bristol. We design our shifting realities. One minute, things make sense. The next minute, we are unraveled. We must fight to create ourselves or die. Fueled on desert energy, cheap synthesizers, and 4-track home recorders, Digital Leather began as Shawn Foree’s one-man bedroom project in Tucson, Arizona. The music was intended to be shared with a small circle of friends only. Without warning, that circle grew. Digital Leather has since moved in several stylistic directions, but has always adhered to one law: nothing lasts. “Feeet” is an eclectic compilation of mainly tape-only released songs written and recorded between 2008 and 2018. Ranging from catchy synthpop to colder dark-wave tunes, these tracks represent a dark journey, where sometimes, despair reigns freely. Sometimes hatred is the only food there is. Sometimes love is an extended nightmare. But it goes further than that. |
