Fortunate Isolation

We are proud to release ‘Fortunate Isolation’ the sophomore album from Borusiade. Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania, Borusiade aka Miruna Boruzescu started DJ-ing in 2002 as one of the very few female DJs in the city’s emerging alternative clubbing scene. Influenced by a classical musical education, a bachelor in film direction and fascinated by raw electronic sounds, Borusiade first combined these universes in the construction of her DJ sets and starting 2005 also in her music production. A sound of her own has slowly crystallized, often dark with poignant bass lines, obsessive themes and by all means melodic. She has released EPs on labels like Pinkman, Unterton, Cititrax, Correspondant and Cómeme, who released her debut album ‘A Body’ in 2018.

‘Fortunate Isolation’ is perhaps Borusiade’s most personal release to date. Eight songs that capture a bystander witnessing the world as it undergoes drastic changes. We have disconnected ourselves from ecology, humanity, preservation, care for what surrounds us, for what is still alive. Borusiade adds, “| know that this place, our home has went through so many other extinctions, but | believe things will find their own way on this planet only once we are gone. Entropy creates a time-line but also a transformation – a new beginning.” The album’s sound is gloomy and powerful mixing sonic film sequences, rhythmic excursions and soothing yet obsessive vocals that touch one’s deepest senses. Lyrically the songs tackle themes of forgotten memories, spirituality, mortality, and destruction. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.

June ‎– Silver Demon

Mannequin Records is thrilled to introduce that the Greek artist June is joining the label with his full-lenght ‘Silver Demon’.

June aka Tsampikos Fronas – also part of the duo Manie Sans Délire has been driving his analog machines since 2010 into many underground places, exploring a variety of outstanding compositions, from acid jakbeat to early Chris Carter experiments, permeating his music with minimal synth and industrial modular powerful sounds. Founding his own imprint June in 2010, Tsampikos delivered two killer full lengths, one for Argy’s label These Days in 2011 and one for Solvent’s Suction Records in 2015, plus a moltitude of EPs, including one for the legendary Jamal Moss’s Mathematics, and one ‘Cytheria’ again for These Days, with 2 liquid-house remixes by DJ Sprinkles.

His third album for Mannequin Records explores a futuristic dystopian world where transcendence and oppression coexist, where claustrophobia and infinite openness coincide. A world of contrasts that is the product of the artist‘s active imagination and conscious effort to confront the subconscious.

The album was recorded using original techniques from the golden era of electronic music (late 70s to mid 80s) with an arsenal of vintage analog synthesizers, drum machines and effect processors (originating) from the same time period. While the aesthetics of the classic precursors emerge through the minimal, deep, dark architecture of June’s music, Silver Demon prevails with the artist’s characteristic originality.

Scott Ryser ‎– Flying Away

Scott Ryser and his partner & wife, Rachel Webber, were the principal, songwriters, synth players, singers and filmmakers for the UNITS. The UNITS were one of America’s first electronic new wave bands and have been cited along with The Screamers and Suicide as pioneers of the music genre “synthpunk”. Scott & Rachel moved from SF to NYC in 1984 where Scott continues to make music & film.

Scott: “Flying Away” is a collection of song ideas I’ve been slowly working on ever since the UNITS broke up. That’s why the album sounds a bit like an old ‘80’s synth record at times. I stepped up the pace recently with the invaluable help and collaboration of Kit Watson in order to get the album out. Throughout the process of writing these songs I kept asking myself the same thing I did while writing songs for the UNITS, How can I make it sound original? Like something someone else hasn’t done yet. I also stayed true to my roots and kept it all synthesizers and drums (except for Blaine’s excellent violin solo on “Society For Two”).

M!R!M – The Visionary

M!R!M is the solo project of Jack Milwaukee, italian multi-instrumentalist based in London since 2011. Inspired by early 80s synth pop, cold and dark wave, M!R!M has been releasing on labels as Fabrika and Manic Depression. Since his debut album, he’s been touring and playing shows all around Europe building an important following and a significant name within the scene.

Still featuring Milwaukee at the helm along with selected collaborators as supplementation, The Visionary is a further evolution in M!R!M sound, which showcases how the musician’s vision has evolved throughout the years. Holding firmly to the vibes that recall the most dreaming 80’s, Jack Milwaukee this time blends together that typical FM synth timbre, which has always characterized the artist, with deeper and sumptuous sounds found within the notes of mellotron and sax; overcoming previous Lo-Fi approaches to undertake a solid, prominent and more mature path. Pulling from the ‘pop’ approach of mid 80′s synth-pop pioneers like New Order, The Wake, Tears For Fears to most iconic figures of the Italian 80’s era, M!R!M dialed in on a clear understanding of its own specific sound, which has since evolved.

The Visionary is the ultimate unified vision of M!R!M’s work, it’s the sweetest transition of the most nostalgic daydream.
